The Handmade’s Towel

Hello shiny people! Are you ok? How is the first half of the year going down? Mine is going down with a pinch of anxiety (what’s new?), and a soupçon of excitement.

It’s nearly the end of June, and I just made it by the skin of my toofs getting something down on ‘paper’. Which was one of my many goals. I’ve never had so many goals, and so little time! Sometimes it feels like time is running out, and that was BEFORE the artificial intelligence impending change of paradigm. Hey, maybe that’s a discussion for another time.

There’s been a fair bit of shifting sands with me closing my Etsy store after a brush with their ai scanner which deemed my listings ‘counterfeit’ or ‘unauthorized’. I think I figured out after much scanning of my own, looking for logos, other people’s work, anything that could be considered contraband, that my new photo shoot included my dear friend Kate using one of my tea towels and flinging it over her shoulder, then picking up a knife to chop a carrot! The knife! Ok, I guess the ai is doing its due diligence, but it feels like a blunt instrument.

Anyhoos, I have a shiny lovely new store on Square…that’s right, this is an actual announcement woootwooot trumpety trumpet…

The Handmade’s Towel has landed!

These tea towels are hand made, all organic and feature 4 of my retro-ish pattern designs, and they have been road tested here at HQ and are proving themselves to be great at their job! Durable, yet soft, thick and absorbant, and a nice handfeel. They are cheering up my kitchen with a real colour pop.

I have been sewing in the Northern Rivers winter sunshine and it’s a slow process, which kind of aligns with my slow food, slow fashion, slow down you crazy idiot way of thinking :0) But it is somehow so grounding for me to just sit and sew on my old Husqvana. It may not be the way to speed ahead in business, but it’s dawning on me that I’m not really built that way anyway.

There was a loop dilemma, to put the hanging loop up the top or half way down the side? I’ve settled on up the top. Who knew these things mattered so much? It’s great fun developing your own product and it comes with a long and windy road, but it’s worth it.

Like life…it’s hard, but it’s worth it.

Now to the second half of the year, but who’s counting?

Lots of love,

Tamsin xx
